Support the Arts – a petition

By June 19, 2020 No Comments

This has been no ordinary year.

We are in the middle of a global pandemic. Luckily, Australia has managed to completely crush the curve and in comparison to many countries and are doing we’re doing quite well comparatively.

This said, we know that many of you are still doing it tough. We know because many of you have told us, and also because that’s what the economic research shows.

Australia Institute research has shown that our arts and entertainment industry is still hurting – it was the first affected and will likely be the last to recover. The creative arts is a $14.7 billion dollar industry and employs 194,000 people directly–in fact, the creative arts alone employs four times as many people as coal mining – read the report here.

Despite Australia’s best efforts and a spare $60 billion… casuals, temporary visa-holders, freelancers and contract workers have all been and still are excluded from JobKeeper. These people make up a large proportion of the Arts Industry.

So, if you’ve had a tough time, we understand.

To everyone who is still having a tough time, please remember to wear your crown first, before helping others with theirs.

And let’s have hope.

During the pandemic lockdown, we at the Tease Industries have been doing our best to keep doing what we do well. And what we do well, is teasing out the juicy bits for everyone’s benefit.

Our Director, Jessica Anne Gough (The Sugar Duchess) wrote an appeal to the Senate in March. It was accepted as material evidence in May and now there’s currently a Petition out for signature. We would be honoured if you would sign it on behalf of every performer you’ve loved viewing, every book you’ve ever loved reading, every movie you’ve ever loved watching, and every outfit you’ve ever loved wearing.

The Arts is still in the thick of their industry interrupted.

But we know with your help, our events and entertainment will come back bigger and better than ever.
